Bill Frascella is PI/PD of the Indiana Mathematics Initiative, an LSC project where ten urban Indiana school districts are reforming the way mathematics is taught and learned in their middle grades classrooms. He has been directing the consortium’s mathematics reform efforts since 1996. Bill is also the director of the Indiana University Center for Mathematics Education. Recently, Bill has been appointed Coordinator of Mathematics Teacher Education Outreach on the IU’s Bloomington campus. This position is jointly funded by IUB’s College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Education. Beginning this summer, he will coordinate a select team of mathematicians, mathematics educators and K-12 teachers to implement a joint plan of the department of mathematics and the School of Education to review, revise and supplement the mathematics content course component of the university’s elementary and secondary teacher preparation programs. Bill’s path to his work in mathematics education reform began in mathematics, teaching all levels of mathematics and chairing the IU (South Bend) department of mathematics and computer science. His education includes doctoral degrees in mathematics and philosophy from the University of Notre Dame.
